eyes closed

eyes closed

During the church service, a scripture was read.
The little guy beside me leaned over and whispered,

“I don’t understand what he is saying.
But when I close my eyes, I think I understand.”

He made me think about meditation.

Meditation is a long, ardent gaze at God, his work and His Word.
Slowing down and giving one’s undivided attention to God lies at
the core of Christian meditation.***

A spiritual kingdom lies all about us, enclosing us, embracing us,
altogether within reach of our inner selves, waiting for us to recognize it.
God Himself is here waiting our response to His Presence.
This eternal world will come alive to us the moment we begin to reckon upon
 its reality.

“God walks everywhere incognito.”

C.S. Lewis

Take time to slow down.

Listen for God’s nudge.

If you witness something of beauty, stop.

Pay attention.

You can read the Bible cover to cover
without catching a breath-taking glimpse of the Maker.

Read the Word slowly.
When a word or a verse captures your attention,
don’t move on, cling.
Your heart is tethered to the Holy Spirit and He
longs to tug you closer to the Father.

Give God every opportunity to display His glory
and mysteries.

Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth,
meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful
to do everything written in it.
Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Joshua 1:8

If I'm sleepless at midnight,
I spend the hours in grateful reflection.
Psalm 63:6

I'll ponder all the things you've accomplished,
and give a long, loving look at your acts.
Psalm 77:12

May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
O LORD,my Rock and my Redeemer.
Psalm 19:14

Meditate on creation.

Ponder  the life of the Savior.

Take a bite out of Proverbs and chew
in slow motion.

Dig a hole and nestle into the pages of

Sometimes you must close your eyes to understand.
