live life overflowing…

live life overflowing…

I turned to today’s date in my devotional  and read.

My eyes glanced over t0wards  the next day, December 30th.
I had jotted notes on that page last year after reading the words for that day:

I AM LEADING YOU along a way that is uniquely right for you.  The closer to Me you grow, the more fully you become your true self–the one I designed you to be.  Because you are one of a kind, the path you are traveling with Me diverges increasingly from that of other people.  In My mysterious wisdom and ways, I enable you to follow this solitary path while staying in close contact with others.  In fact, the more completely you devote yourself to Me, the more freely you can love people.

Marvel at the beauty of a life intertwined with My Presence.  Rejoice as we journey together in intimate communion.  Enjoy the adventure of finding yourself through losing yourself in Me.

I read this after a daybreak appointment where they  had discovered something suspect on my left side.

This is what I wrote at the bottom of the page:

Today I praise you if it is nothing or if it is something.  You remain the same…unchanged!

Those were anxious days, there was a lot going on many fronts in my life and those around me.  But I continued my mantra of sorts.

You see…we are temporal.

He is eternal.

We only see in part.

He knows all.

I was consumed with my left side and when I went for another early morning appointment to my surprise they inspected the right side.  They weren’t the least bit interested in what had taken possession of my thoughts…my life.

You see I don’t know everything.

I can’t see everything.

I see in part.

But He knows it all.

I read this from the same devotional on January 20th as I was waiting to be ushered in to be inspected.

APPROACH THIS DAY WITH AWARENESS OF WHO IS BOSS. As you make plans for the day, remember that it is I who orchestrate the events of your life.  On days when things go smoothly, according to your plans, you may be unaware of My sovereign Presence.  On days where your plans are thwarted, be on the lookout for Me!  I may be doing something important in your life, something quite different from what you expected.  It is essential at such times to stay in communication with Me.

Don’t try to figure out what is happening.  Simply trust  Me and thank Me in advance for the good that will come out of it all.  I know the plans I have for you, and they are good.

I left the building and everything was fine.

Praise Him!

But it might not have been alright.

Praise Him!

Last year, I chose words that purposed my heart and mind towards being present by seeking and savoring His Word so that I could know Him more.  I don’t anticipate abandoning that pursuit in the least.

This year, I feel that He has been stirring  in me during the year to live life more fully.

There is so much suffering just next door and throughout this world.

Jesus tells us:

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.  I came that they may have life; and have it abundantly.”

John 10:10

I don’t know about you but I see a lot of theft, killing and destruction these days.

Yet Jesus tells us that He came to give us life.  Not just physical life but a life that is abundant.  He says these words right beside the thief’s agenda.

To me, it seems not just probable but  possible to live an abundant life in the midst of the thief’s party.

A life that is overflowing is for now.

It is not a life that is put on the back burner until our lives are tidy.  It wouldn’t make Christ very powerful if He needed to wait until more favorable circumstances to share with us His divine nature.

In Christ, we have Life…New Life…Changed Life…Overflowing Life.

This week in  Common Prayer, this was repeated throughout the morning laud:

Overwhelm us, Lord:  with the weight of your glory!

I purpose to take Him at His word and live life fully and wait expectantly for the weight of His glory to overwhelm me!

Happy New Year indeed!

  1. Hi Michelle,
Jesus Calling is by Sarah Young…you will love it. If you scroll back to the top of the post…the word “devotional” is a link that will take you to the barnes and noble site…so you can see what it looks like and peek inside…I just checked it and it is on sale for half price online. It always seems to be in stock at the store as well.
I like that list of maxims as well. I wrote them out on index cards yesterday and Caleb watched me and he said he would pick the shortest one for himself…”Be cheerful”…
Happy New Year and hope to see you Sunday!

  2. Can you tell me the author of “Jesus Calling”? It sure sounds like it would be very good. Also, I have enjoyed going over the list Of “55 maxims for christian living” you had the other day….some good thongs to ponder.

  3. Hey Barb,
Thanks for your comments! I miss you…see you Sunday!

I have prayed for you this morning and I will continue as you approach your inspection…please let me know how it goes…your family has weathered much this year.
I haven’t decide if I will take a “break” from Jesus Calling this next year as I am now completing my second year…but you are right…it definitely speaks loud and clear most days!

  4. I can’t tell you how many times God has used that devotional to speak to me this year. And as I go to have my left side inspected next week, I’ll remember those words. 🙂
