Choice nuggets from Cover to Cover…

It is way too hot to collect my brain cells so this week I am going to share some of the tasty morsels from my reading this week…so allow me to pass you a plate of God’s word…

“Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it.  Then he went up to the temple of the LORD and spread it before the LORD.  And Hezekiah prayed to the LORD.”
(II Kings 19: 14-15)

Hezekiah was in a jam…he knew that he needed to lay everything before the Lord…and the Lord stepped in and confounded his enemies…what a lesson in the power of truly laying our requests before the Lord.

“Restore us, O God; [O Lord God Almighty}*
make your face shine upon us,
that we may be saved.”
Psalm 80: 3, [7,19]*

This plea is repeated 3 times in the span of 20 verses…sounds like a plea we might all say before our feet hit the ground in the morning.

“The bed is too short to stretch out on,
the blanket too narrow to wrap around you.”
Isaiah 28: 20

I wrote a short post related to this scripture over a year ago here…it continues to mess with my heart…I don’t want to have any other confidence than the Lord…I don’t want to live a life that is comprised of seeking comfort in things that will never completely cover that need…only the Lord can completely satisfy…this scripture comes after these:

“See, I lay a stone in Zion,
a tested stone,
a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation;
the one who trusts will never be dismayed.
I will make justice the measuring line
and righteousness the plumb line;
hail will sweep away your refuge, the lie,
and water will overflow your hiding place.”
Isaiah 28: 16-17

Is my life built on the the precious cornerstone or is built on a lie…again…choose to lie on a king sized bed luxuriously covered in the softest chenille blanket…trust in the true refuge of God…not a twin sized bed wrapped in polyester.

Mighty Micah

“Every man will sit under his own vine
and under his own fig tree,
and no one will make them afraid,
for the LORD Almighty has spoken.
All the nations may walk in the name of their gods;
we will walk in the name of the LORD
our God for ever and ever.”
Micah 4: 4,5

“He will stand and shepherd his flock
in the strength of the LORD,
in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God.
And they will live securely, for then his greatness
will reach to the ends of the earth.
And he will be their peace.”
Micah 5: 4-5

“He has showed you, O man, what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To  act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.”
Micah 6: 8

“But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD,
I wait for God my Savior;
my God will hear me.”
Micah 7: 7

“Who is a God like you,
who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance?
You do not stay anger forever
but delight to show mercy.
You will again have compassion on us;
you will tread our sins underfoot
and hurl our iniquities into the depths of the sea.”
Micah 7: 18-19

AMEN!!!

Helen

Oops…one more that I forgot…

“O people of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more.  How gracious he will be when you cry for help!  As soon as he hears, he will answer you.  Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more;
with your own eyes you will see them.  Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
Isaiah 30: 19-21

May each of us hear His voice in each and every situation we find ourselves in…how gracious He is to hear our cries….

    You are so right…I want nothing….NO THING to satisfy me but Him. Not even the “good stuff”, such as Bible study or writings that I might want to read ten years from now etc…..just Him. Your post spoke to deep places within me. thank you for sharing. Blessings.

  2. How I love doing this chronological study with each of you! Your words bless me this morning, especially “the bed is too short…” I realize anything that entraps us that we use to cover us except God will come up short. He promises a spacious place. You always make my heart work a little to stretch out in that open space. Thanks, Helen. Love, Annette

  3. Wow Helen.

    Thanks for this post. (And I’ll check out that cover-to-cover group you refered to.) I feel very blessed to be getting to know you.

    And I love that Micah 6:8 verse, about what is good and what God requires?
    “To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

    Oh, I want to live with that kind of focus.

    Blessings on your day!

  5. I totally missed that in Isaiah 20:28 but know that it was intended for me to read it today! I don’t want to seek comfort in anything that will not completely cover the need. Thanks Helen!

  6. Hi Karen,
    I really enjoyed Micah as well…I could have kept typing all the gems of this “minor” prophet.
    Mary Lou…hello again…you are so right…even the good stuff can compete with God…just Him…like you said…the question is why isn’t that enough…

    Hey Annette…thanks for the encouragement…and I would say a big ditto to you…I so love when God gives us a visual in scripture…it is easier to remember and seems to impact me deeper.

    Hi Ann…love that scripture as well…so succinct but mighty…funny how I can always add more and more that I believe God requires of me…and it comes down to walking humbly with God…then mercy and justice will flow from us because God is just and oh so merciful…and Oh Ann…you have a personal invite from Bev…join us…we would love it! Bev is a mission mama as well…oh she would love to know about your book…oh…I do believe you and her need to “meet”…

    Bev…thanks for popping over…I know you are so busy with so much…isn’t that the most amazing picture…I won’t lose it for a long time either…continuing to pray for you and your hubby…can’t wait to hear the outcome…

    Hey there Nise’…I think the concensus is that I could have made this post even more concise by just posting Isaiah 20:28…I do love reading everyone’s recaps…I always miss a lot of meaty verses…isn’t that weird yet amazing how God’s Word impacts us individually and universally…I love it!

  7. I love that Scripture in Isaiah 30. “Your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it.'” Oh how good it is to hear God’s voice through his Word and how God it is to see others listening to His voice! How else shall we know the truth and the way to go?

    Take care my friend. It’s a busy week with VBS here 🙂 Continue to keep me in your prayers. My back has been giving me alot of pain… it all started about a year ago during VBS… Satan loves to try to destroy God’s work, but God’s work will not be thwarted!
