Christmas meme…

I saw this meme on another Helen’s blog here.  She didn’t tag anyone so I tagged myself and here goes…

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?

I prefer to wrap my gifts but if I am in a hurry…there’s nothing like a good gift bag!

2. Real tree or artificial?

REAL…although we have been tempted this year to go artificial…but you just can’t beat the wonderful smell of fresh pine…

3. When do you put up the tree?

I wish I could say that we have a traditional date to get our tree…like the weekend after Thanksgiving but we don’t…we have done everything from getting one early in December to waiting until the only trees left resembled Charlie Brown’s pick.

4. When do you take the tree down?

On New Years Day…no later than the day after…

5. Do you like eggnog?

As a kid, I did like egg nog but now I can’t do dairy in this way and it has lost its appeal.

6. Favorite gift received as a child?

I am really terrible at remembering childhood Christmas gifts…I don’t know why…but I remember always being surprised and that my mom especially had a way of finding the most fun and special trinkets…I think my stocking was always my favorite.

7. Do you have a Nativity scene?

YES…we have three…I have the one that I grew up with…a small navitity that as a child I thought was made out of ivory but it was really plastic…it will go in Caleb’s room this year.  We also have one that I made from a pattern that is stuffed…very kid friendly…second thoughts that might go in the rough and tumble room of my 4 year old…and we have a Willow Tree nativity and were given a beautiful Lennox Creche a couple years ago.

8. Hardest person to buy for?

My dad is particularly difficult since he has a birthday right around Thanksgiving…I always feel that I have used up all my creativity on the birthday.

9. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?

I can’t think of one…unless it was something I could tell was recycled.

10. Mail or email Christmas cards?

Mail…do people really email Christmas cards?

11. Favorite Christmas Movie?

The Christmas Box…Holiday Inn…The Little Drummer Boy…A Charlie Brown Christmas…

12. When do you start shopping for Christmas?

I try to start as soon as possible…

13. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?

No

14. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?

Almond Roca, shortbread, sugar cookies, molasses cookies, snickerdoodles…can you tell I am a cookie lover.

15. Clear lights or colored on the tree?

I am a purist…if it was up to me it would be clear lights and Margaret Furlong white ornaments and a tree topper…

16. Favorite Christmas song?

Hark the Herald, Angel Sing…and there is a Point of Grace song featuring Michael Tait that my whole family loves I think is called Jesus the Savior is Born and I love Mary Did You Know?

17. Travel at Christmas or stay home?

The last two years we traveled to my parent’s home which is 350 miles away…I loved it because I was really organized…I had mailed stocking, Christmas pajamas and gifts ahead of time…we were mostly wrapped before we arrived and my stress level was so much lower and I loved being able to go to Christmas Eve service at my childhood church.  But most years we are home…as we will be this year.

18. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeers?

Let me give it a try….Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, Rudolph, Dancer, Prancer…wow, Carl helped me with the last two…but I do know the 7 dwarves…Happpy, Bashful, Sneezy, Sleepy, Grumpy, Dopey and Doc…how’s that…

19. Angel on the tree top or a star?

Angel…

20. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?

Christmas morning…

21. Most annoying thing about this time of year?

The crowds

22. Best thing about this time of year?

Time to focus on our Savior…time with family and friends…mail, glorious mail…love Christmas cards…oh and cookies!

  1. I too love “Mary did you know” and I wish I had a Willow Tree Nativity scene, but this is so expensive…

  2. Hi ya Helen,

Great list! I love shortbread too and we put up a real tree, (my husband insists although I wouldn’t mind an artificial with my mold allergies) and let’s see what my favorite Christmas song is… I love them all really, but Silent Night does something for me, maybe it’s the soft ballad and the thought that “all is calm and all is bright”. I just played that song on the piano for offering at church today and it lends to such good emotion when striking the keys 🙂
