Help (or the Word) is on the way…

***Why does it feel like circumstances and difficult times seem to crowd out the voice of God so quickly and so easily?
Yesterday was not a banner day for me…I felt very defeated and like the prayers that I had prayed for years had not been heard and were not being “worked on”.  I was consumed with the plaguing thought that “Nothing is ever going to change”.  I shared some of my feelings with Carl and he suggested that I read something encouraging…like my blog…I found that sweet.  But I know that the source of anything good that would come from this blog is from above…it took me until late last night to get with the Lord…and I mean getting with the Lord and receiving mercy for my lack of trust and comfort and strength to get up today and find Him waiting for me.  These are some of the scriptures from this morning.

Psalm 16 (New International Version)

 1 Keep me safe, O God,
       for in you I take refuge.

 2 I said to the LORD, “You are my Lord;
       apart from you I have no good thing.”

 3 As for the saints who are in the land,
       they are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight.

 4 The sorrows of those will increase
       who run after other gods.
       I will not pour out their libations of blood
       or take up their names on my lips.

 5 LORD, you have assigned me my portion and my cup;
       you have made my lot secure.

 6 The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
       surely I have a delightful inheritance.

 7 I will praise the LORD, who counsels me;
       even at night my heart instructs me.

 8 I have set the LORD always before me.
       Because he is at my right hand,
       I will not be shaken.

 9 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
       my body also will rest secure,

 10 because you will not abandon me to the grave,
       nor will you let your Holy One see decay.

 11 You have made known to me the path of life;
       you will fill me with joy in your presence,
       with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Psalm 46 (New International Version)

 1 God is our refuge and strength,
       an ever-present help in trouble.

 2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
       and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

 3 though its waters roar and foam
       and the mountains quake with their surging.
       Selah

 4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
       the holy place where the Most High dwells.

 5 God is within her, she will not fall;
       God will help her at break of day.

 6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
       he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

 7 The LORD Almighty is with us;
       the God of Jacob is our fortress.
       Selah

 8 Come and see the works of the LORD,
       the desolations he has brought on the earth.

 9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
       he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
       he burns the shields with fire.

 10 “Be still, and know that I am God;
       I will be exalted among the nations,
       I will be exalted in the earth.”

 11 The LORD Almighty is with us;
       the God of Jacob is our fortress.
       Selah

Thank You Lord that you have made my lot secure, that You are with me even when it feels like everything around me is falling into the heart of the sea.  I praise You that You are my ever-present help, not just a once in a while help but an always present help…help me to remember that and not wait until late at night to seek You out.  So Lord, once again I will set You before me and ask that You unfold the paths of my life as You desire not as I would have it look like and in the meantime as I wait on You, I will be still and I will know with every fiber of my being that YOU ARE GOD. I will praise You now because of Who You Are now and I can’t wait to praise You in days to come when You bring all of Your purposes and plans together for good and to completion.  Thank You for new mercies this morning and for such amazing grace that You have once again showered over me.  Amen!

    Hi Helen!
    Oh, this looks like it’s from February 2007! Anyway, this popped up at the bottom of today’s blog entry and so I read it. Perfect for me. My word for the year has been “refuge” and I’ve written out these same psalms… and many other bits of scripture that speak of God as our refuge. Especially during this turbulent time in the world, where there are wars happening and disease spreading… yet the Lord remains my refuge. Be encouraged.
